New Folding Bike shrinks to 26″!

25 11 2009

I love riding my bike and I’m a huge cycling advocate. But I feel like if the metro was a part of my commute, I’d reconsider using my track bike since it would be pretty rude to everyone else on the train.
There are a billion and one different folding bikes on the market, most of them pretty unattractive. I came across this one today that looks a bit nicer, appears substantially better thought out, and folds up smaller than anything else I’ve seen.

Demo:

From the video it’s tough to see if this designer has sorted out the drive train issues yet, so it will be cool to see if this ever makes it to production.
Apparently he has approached multiple manufacturers and gotten some interest, along with having been a favorite to win the James Dyson Award.

Jeff Conger comes to Reno for AIGA speaking event (oh and Hot August Nights)

8 08 2008

I had the pleasure of hearing Jeff Conger, hot rod photographer and graphic design professor at Montana State University, speak at the Nevada Museum of Art this Tuesday. What a great time! Good networking at the event, made even better by a delicious classic car themed cake from Josef’s Vienna Bakery. Jeff outlined his experiences as an editorial automotive photographer, and spoke about his career as a professor living and working in Bozeman, Montana. It’s always cool to meet people who are passionate about what they do, and Jeff Conger is one of those people: A true gearhead at heart. Thanks to the loveli Leilani Schweitzer for bringing him to Reno.

Afterwards Jeff, Leilani and I went out for drinks at Chocolate Bar, and had some insightful conversation on the state of the photographic and publishing industries. It was nice to hang out on their new patio. Definitely worth a try. Although I do wish they would quit turning up the bad techno to levels that all but prohibit conversation.

Today I was fortunate enough to be invited out to Miller Speedsports at the Stead airport. Dave Miller is a fantastic craftsman of beautiful custom cars, and was more than happy to host Jeff Conger and myself for a photo shoot. Leilani and Earl Spriggs filmed the latest installment of the Twelve Horses podcast, and interviewed Jeff in the gorgeous garage Miller Speedsports has built. Did some fun car to car shots, and had good conversation with Dave and some of his car owner buddies. Here are some photos, enjoy!
